Position Announcement: Registration Assistant, The Frick Collection, NY, NY

The Frick Collection is an art museum consisting of more than 1,100 works of art from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century, displayed in the intimate surroundings of the former home of Henry Clay Frick. The residence, with its furnishings and works of art, has been open to the public since 1935. The Frick Art Reference Library is an internationally-recognized research library that serves as one of the most complete resources for the study of Western art. Founded in 1920, the Library today holds of more than one million study photographs, 285,000 books, 80,000 auction catalogs, and 2,250 periodical titles. It is open to interested individuals from all over the world.

Summary and Responsibilities

Assist registrars in all phases of collection and exhibition management. Coordination of paperwork securing requisite approvals and insurance evaluations, as well as corresponding forms and mailings for outgoing and incoming loans of art work. Assist with creation and maintenance of art object records in TMS Collections Management database. Condition checking of artworks. Courier for artwork as requested, oversee: packing/unpacking, installation/dismantling, handling, receipt/release, and transit. Assist with collection inventories and documentation, creation and updating of TFC Registrar Procedures Manual. Assist with research, completion of forms, and preparation of procedure and policy statements related to AAM reaccreditation. Coordinate projects and scheduling/priorities for registrar interns. Facilitate hotel and per diem arrangements for artwork couriers. Help secure annual NYC hotel selection and related corporate rate agreement for guests of the Frick. Create/organize/maintain exhibition and loan files and lists (including excel checklist/spreadsheets). Assist as necessary in oversight of receiving/releasing/installation of artwork (occasional evening/weekend hours)

-One to two years’ experience in museum registration and/or administrative assistance preferred but not required.
-Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge of Photoshop, Financial Edge, and Gallery Systems TMS software a plus. B.A. required, preferably with a major in art history or studio art. Knowledge of foreign language helpful but not required.
