The 2018 annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association will take place November 14-18 in San Jose, CA. The theme for this year’s meeting is Change in the Anthropological Imagination: Resistance, Resilience, and Adaptation. More information on the theme can be found here. As museum anthropologists, CMA members have much to contribute on how anthropology can be a "a positive force for groundbreaking anthropological research, new forms of cultural understanding, scientific awareness, and global empathy.” We hope you will consider organizing a panel or roundtable, paper or gallery session (formerly called poster sessions), group flash presentation, or installation. The online submission portal is currently open and will close on April 16th at 3:00pm EST.

There are a few financial assistance options to be aware of. For Anthropologists outside of the U.S. or Canada, or Non-Anthropologists, there are Membership Exemptions and Program Chair Waivers (limited). Applications must be submitted by Thursday, March 29th.
Undergraduate students have the opportunity to apply for a Volunteer Application to have their registration fees reimbursed. The AAA will begin accepting applications for student volunteers in August. More information is available here.
Lastly , there is a Section Registration Fee Waiver. For this waiver, a qualified participant is an individual who has been asked to participate in a section-sponsored event, regardless of academic degree or field of expertise. Qualified participants may be employed outside of the United States or Canada either as practicing or university-based anthropologists or in some related field. Since the AAA expects American anthropologists to be association members, qualified participants based in the United States or Canada must come from fields outside of anthropology. In order to apply for a Section Registration Fee Waver, click here. These applications are processed on a first come, first serve basis and must be submitted no later than March 30th.
